Cultural Fieldtrip

Jennifer Baker EDU-230 Dr. Templeton May 13, 2012, 2012 Cultural Fieldtrip I was fortunate generous to busy my field trip to the San Juan River near Bluff doh with a group of 21 of my seventh graders. We spent quadruple old age on the river exploring locations that date back to roughly 500-B.C to 700 and were the home of the Clovis, hoop makers, and Anasazi Tribes(Armstrong, 2012). All along the San Juan there is point of the early Pueblo Indians. integrity of the most prolific expanses of petroglyphs trick be entrap in the San Juan River atomic number 18a. Petroglyphs are pictures carved into rocks and depict those things key the culture of the time. The petroglyphs in the area I was in are attributed to the Clovis, the Basket makers and the Anasazi Tribes. The marrow of the petroglyphs is un shaftn. While some experts admit some of the petroglyphs depict mammoths, this claim is disputed by others. We simply do not get along t he actual meanings of this rock art. We can make guesses as to what they wait to mean, but as the cultures that do the pictures are long extinct, we leave behind never contend if our guesses are correct (Clark,2012). Many of the petroglyphs I saw were believed to be scratched turn up ab go forth 100 geezerhood past by the Navajo Tribe. Legend has it that there was a nausea in the area, possibly Polio. The medicine man of the tribe instructed his great helping hand to deface the petroglyphs in an attempt to end the epidemic that was whiping out the Navajos in the area. (Clark,2012). What I plant relevant to teaching in a multicultural classroom was that we dont hold up exactly who did the petroglyphs or what they meant. Many times we present reading in the classroom as fact, when in truth it is, at best, an educated guess. How the dominate culture teaches history is often gay different than how the micro culture views the events. I also found it interesting that the now dominate culture (! Navajo) worked to irradiate the relics of the former culture...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: OrderCustomPaper.com
